When do I use a semi-colon?

I'm asked at least once a week about when and how to use semi-colons. Here's a video explaining that semi-colons are purely stylistic. They replace a period/full stop and a capital letter starting the next sentence. They are not the same as commas. To figure out if you're using a semi-colon correctly just look right after it. If you've got a new subject verb you've done it correctly.
